Finished reading your first go at our current event assignment. Overall, not bad! Many of you have lots of prior knowledge and some of you are already able to see interconnections between place. Well-done.
Remember, these will get easier as we go along! Our first official current event assignment will be due in the next 2.5 weeks-see me with any questions or problems you may be having.
Things to conside as you write:
Requirements: some of you were missing aspects of the assignment-check the length and different parts that should be included.
Vocab: please take the time to define the word you are using in the context of the article. Many people define evangelical as "converting to Christinaity" and that is not how it was used in the New Orleans article.
Articles don't "talk"; work on your opening sentences and transitions between paragraphs.
Type your assignments! And run them through spell and grammar check. If you don't have a word processor like Microsoft Word available, you can copy and paste your text into http://www.hemingwayapp.com and it will help you edit those hard to read/understand sentences and identify those that are missing components.
Lastly, and I may have forgotten to mention this: you need to close read and annotate your articles. Read it once for information. Read it and annotate the second time for main ideas and details. Read it a third time to look for connection to your AP HUG concepts-you should annotate for these as well.
Annotation does not equal highlighting. Notes in the margins are essential. See me if you need a crash course in this skill.
