Read the pages corresponding to "How can local and popular cultures be seen in the cultural landscape?" and complete the activity found on the right.

Read the Field Note and first section; p. 172-182 and NOTES. Also answer Thinking Geographically on p. 182
6. Chapter 6-Language due 2/10
Read 192-200 and NOTES.
Make sure you can define ALL vocab from the first, third and fourth sections of this chapter (172-182, 192-200)
-How are toponyms commodified? Give examples in Chicago.
-Refer to Table 6.2: Take the Toponym challenge-can you give at least one example for EACH type of toponym? (ones that are not listed)
Read Guest Field Note on pg 201 and do the following...-look up "Martin Luther King Dr." in google maps...how many place pop up with that name? Why do so many cities name streets after MLK Jr?
